History of SDDA written in the 1990's & stands strong today!

SDDA was formed in 1993 by a group of downtown businessmen and women who joined together to improve and promote downtown Seaside. SDDA is capitalizing on the unique character of this, the oldest resort community on the Oregon coast. It is an ongoing process that will be exciting to watch.

In October 1997, SDDA held an open meeting asking what would help us move into the 21st Century.  We know that we must prepare and organize in order to gain an edge in an increasingly competitive business and tourism environment. From that meeting, we established our current project, ongoing projects and our long-term goals.

Everyone in our community has a stake in the future of downtown Seaside. The Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau are commitment to attract visitors and to develop and publicize events and attractions is very important to the well-being of Seaside. It is up to us, the downtown businesses, property owner, civic groups and lodging facilities to welcome those visitors.

We believe it is healthy and legitimate for SDDA to primarily focus on the downtown district to make it as attractive, vibrant and as dynamic as possible. The management of downtown is important to the overall vitality of the city.

While the downtown district is our focus, we recognize that there is more to Seaside.  That is why we believe a strong and active Chamber of Commerce is also vital to our community. Working in cooperation with all entities for Seaside, SDDA is an important contributing partner.
